5 Ways to Fix Dehydrated Skin... Yes Your Skin is Probably Dehydrated!
When you look in the mirror do you see the Sahara Dessert, does the skin on your face resemble that of your elbow? Well you might have dehydrated skin. Don’t worry we are here to help you recognise the symptoms and offer some solutions, because we‘re good like that 😉
First things first, dry skin & dehydrated skin are not the same and although they have similar symptoms, they are actually quite different.
Dry Skin:
Dry skin is a skin type, when the skin doesn’t produce adequate natural oils. Dry skin can also be tied to your hormones. Unfortunately you can’t change your skin type but it can be improved with the right products.
Dehydrated Skin:
Dehydrated Skin is a skin condition which is temporary & has nothing to do with our genetics. Dehydrated skin is caused through factors that reduce your skin’s water content.
Something to keep in mind, even oily skin can be dehydrated.
Symptoms of Dehydrated Skin:
Dullness, itchiness, increased sensitivity, darker under-eye circles, increased appearance of fine lines and surface wrinkles.
How to Fix Dehydrated Skin:
Water intake: Water intake is an essential part in keeping your skin healthy, so put down the diet coke and pick up a water bottle. You can also focus on foods that contain water like tomatoes, watermelon, grapes and berries.
Hyaluronic Acid:Hyaluronic Acid is a superhero when it comes to fighting dehydrated skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts moisture and helps your cells retain moisture, so opt for skincare products with Hyaluronic Acid. Below we have listed some of our favourite James products which contain this super ingredient.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser: Some cleaners can be too striping and remove all signs of life in your skin, so use a gentle cleanser with lukewarm water. The words ‘squeaky-clean’ skin when it comes to cleansing is actually a negative and means you have striped your skin of essential oils.
Air quality and moisture: I have some bad news, do you live for the air-con or do you crank up the heater? If you’re anything like me you certainly do, so running a humidifier can help!
Alcohol & Caffeine: Yep, that weekend binge is not only giving you a headache but also it’s causing your skin to become dehydrated. It decreases the body’s production of an anti-diuretic hormone causing your body to lose more fluids than normal by producing more urine… yep that’s why you have to use the bathroom so much when you are having a cocktail night out with the girls. It get’s worse, caffeine has the same effect as alcohol! So try not to exceed 2 cups of coffee a day.
