Our Favourite Exfoliating Products
Recently we went into the topic of exfoliation over on our Instagram stories and we’ve had a few questions about it, so we thought we'd do a blog post to go into everything a bit further!
Basically, exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin so that you are left with a fresh, healthy, juicy looking complexion.
Without removing the dead skin cells on top of your skin, you risk dullness, dryness and could potentially even leave yourself open to breakouts.
There are a few ways you can go about exfoliating. Physically and chemically are our favourite ways of exfoliation because basically together, they do a really good job.
Someone once explained to us how exfoliation works using a brick wall as an example. A chemical exfoliant will do a good job at removing the ‘concrete’, holding the ‘bricks’ together and a physical exfoliate will take away the ‘bricks’.
Our favourite products for chemical exfoliation are:
Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys - Maddie
Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 - Courtney
It’s important not to overdo physical exfoliation as it can cause microtears in the skin. Microtears can gradually cause a breakdown in the lipid barrier of your skin which can cause flakiness, dryness, breakouts and just general unpleasantness... they are definitely something to be avoided!
Our favourite products for physical exfoliation are:
Skinstitut Glycolic Scrub 14% - Maddie
Tarte Frxxxion Stick - Courtney
For our bodies we both love a physical scrub and we do it everyday! This is OKAY to do because the skin on your body is a lot more robust than that on your face.. so we give you permission to be a little tougher on it.
Daily, we both use an exfoliating mit with a cream body cleanser and once a week we both like to use an exfoliating scrub.
Our favourite products for exfoliating our body:
Frank Body Peppermint Coffee Scrub - Maddie
Soap & Glory The Breakfast Scrub - Courtney
